Where will you be staying?

Summer is calling. It’s time to dust off your suitcase and begin planning the perfect getaway.  Sound like a plan? Hold on before you start packing your bags. Let me introduce you to the latest trend-it’s called a staycation. It’s sort of a vacation in your mind.  And, no, it doesn’t involve the use of psychotropic pharmaceuticals. You can put away your boarding pass and step away from the gate as you won’t be going anywhere, or will you? I call it a “pretendacation”, my twist on the super cool staycation. Wow, when did mind trips get so complicated?

We are all too familiar with the current economy and the very real affect it has on our lives and finances. Many people are struggling in ways they never have before trying to make ends meet. Because of this, our collective stress levels are through the roof. If the daily grind is more than you can take, this may be the perfect time to plan an amazing getaway. Yup, it’s time to let your imagination run wild.

I have a bug for a vacation, and not a quick getaway either. I am talking about a full out European jaunt. For various reasons, this isn’t the most optimal time for me to indulge my whim.  But I am determined that I’m not going to let that stop my planning. After all, a girl can still dream.

So what are you waiting for? Start planning every little detail of your trip. There’s no time like today, and don’t forget to make the planning enjoyable. Search online, buy a coffee table book to remind you, watch the travel channel, do whatever floats your boat-literally.  You will be amazed at how it can free you. The whole “pretendacation” process will move you into a new mind set and give you hope, and you can never have too much of that.

There are web sites and apps available to help plan your staycation. Popular sites like staycationidea.com are there to make your experience as enjoyable and unique as you are. Whether you end up planning a real vacation or a much needed staycation, the best part of the journey is the anticipation. My Grandmother always said “the anticipation is always better than the realization.”

Happy Trails to you and yours!

A person needs at intervals to separate from family and companions and go to new places. One must go without familiars in order to be open to influences, to change.”      -Katharine Butler Hathaway
